Liga Skride comes from a latvian family of teachers. At the age of three she began to play the piano in her hometown Liepaja. At age of ten she already won the 3rd Price at the International Competition “Concertino Praha”. Afterwards she continued her musical education at the Special Music School in Riga, followed by several regional competitions and concerts with orchestra. She finished her studies at the Jāzeps Vītols Latvian Academy of Music (class of Prof. V. Jancis) and her post graduate degree at the Gnessin-Institute of Music and Education in Moscow (class of Prof. I. Bulatova) with distinction.

Besides her work as a piano accompanist for all string instruments, she performed regularly as a soloist and also with her three daughters, Linda, Baiba and Lauma in Europe, Japan, Taiwan and the USA.

Since 1995 Liga Skride has a very successful collaboration with Professor Petru Munteanu at the Rostock University of Music and Theatre, where she holds an honorary professorship since June 2005. Since 2001 Liga Skride works at the University of the Arts in Bremen as a pianist/accompanist (subject orchestral instruments). She is an active chamber musician and can be heard along with her colleagues and members of the Bremen Philharmonic Orchestra in many chamber and studio concerts at the university.
